Rockstar Games has released the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI). This trailer soared to the #1 trending spot on YouTube and garnered over 116 million views within 2 days. After ten years in the making, they officially confirmed that the game would bring players back to Vice City.
The news made headlines after a trailer that was supposed to debut on December 5 leaked early through an account that was later suspended on X (Twitter). Rockstar promptly responded by releasing the full trailer on their official YouTube channel.
The trailer showcases typical GTA scenes, ranging from car races, parties on yachts, to a scene featuring a man pulling an alligator out of a swimming pool, all set to the iconic American music of 'Love is a Long Road' by Tom Petty.
The trailer not only confirms the setting of Vice City but also states that the game will feature the first female protagonist in the series, with story elements inspired by the tale of Bonnie and Clyde.
Scheduled for Release in 2025 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S
Lucia, a woman featured in the trailer, becomes the protagonist of the story. She's seen wearing a prison jumpsuit and appears to get involved in crime with her partner after being released from jail. Rockstar also detailed that GTA VI will be available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2025.
In their press release, Rockstar explained that GTA VI will take players to the state of Leonida, home to the neon-lit streets of Vice City in the largest and most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series.
Attention on GTA VI has been brewing for years with continuous rumors and leaks. Since the success of GTA V in 2013, fans have eagerly awaited the continuation of this series. GTA V itself stands as the second best-selling video game of all time after Minecraft.
With an intriguing setting change, a female protagonist, and promises of the biggest evolution in this series, the arrival of GTA VI in 2025 will be a highly anticipated moment in video game history.
