Microsoft Excel is Now an Interesting E-Sport

Microsoft Excel, traditionally used as a data processing tool, has now found its place in the realm of e-sports. A remarkable event took place in Las Vegas last December with the staging of the Microsoft Excel World Championship 2023.

Microsoft Excel, software that has been an inseparable part of various business activities and data management, has found its footing in the world of e-sports.

Although often seen as a complex tool with numerous formulas, in this championship, Excel took center stage where 16 technology experts from various parts of the world showcased their skills.

The competition was a part of the Financial Modeling World Cup and offered a unique experience in the world of e-sports by utilizing Microsoft Excel as the gaming platform. Participants faced various challenges in processing data with the right Excel formulas.

Rules of the Game

The gameplay involved eight players given a significant amount of data and instructions. They had to process formulas and data subsets while racing against time to earn bonus points.

Within a seven-and-a-half-minute interval, participants with the lowest scores would be eliminated. Strategic decisions were key to success, both in selecting bonus questions and completing game levels.

Meanwhile, statistics from live streaming on YouTube were impressive. The tournament's streaming reached 1.1K hours watched, with the official VOD on YouTube attracting over 23.2K viewers.

This event not only showcased expertise in managing spreadsheets but also proved that Microsoft Excel has found its place in the world of e-sports, drawing attention from diverse audiences.
