OpenAI, the company renowned for ChatGPT and the image generator DALL-E, has introduced a new system called Sora. This technology allows users to create 60-second videos simply by typing a sentence.
In a demo, OpenAI showcased the prowess of Sora by generating short videos that resemble scenes from Hollywood movies. These videos look realistic and are difficult to distinguish from original ones.
Within minutes, Sora can create videos of mammoths walking through snowy fields, monsters gazing at melting candles, and Tokyo street scenes as if captured by a sweeping camera.
Sora's capabilities extend beyond content creation; the technology can also accelerate the work of experienced filmmakers and replace the role of less experienced digital artists.
However, there is also potential for misuse of this technology. Sora can quickly generate false information, making it increasingly challenging to discern what is real on the internet.
OpenAI chose the name "Sora" for this technology, drawing inspiration from the Japanese word meaning sky, symbolizing limitless creative potential.
OpenAI has not yet released Sora to the public as it is still studying its potential dangers. Instead, the company is sharing this technology with a small group of academics and researchers who will conduct further research to understand how it could be misused.
