Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour

Nintendo Switch 2 brings significant design changes. The console is larger, measuring 271.8mm in width and 114.3mm in height. Its thickness remains at 13.9mm, and it weighs 399g when paired with the Joy-Con 2.

A major improvement comes with a larger and more flexible kickstand. Additionally, there are two USB-C ports, one at the top and one at the bottom, for easier connectivity. The Joy-Con 2 features a more modern design, predominantly black with red and blue accents.

The difference lies in the magnetic system that replaces the mechanical rail, making it easier to attach and detach. The SL/SR buttons are now larger for better comfort when used separately. The analog sticks are also larger for more precise control.

Nintendo Switch 2 Dock

Another standout feature is the mouse mode, which allows the Joy-Con 2 to be used like a mouse in supported games. Nintendo has demonstrated older titles with this mode, as well as new games that utilize it as the main control method.

Larger Screen with Higher Resolution

Nintendo Switch 2 uses a 7.9-inch display with a resolution of 1920x1080. The refresh rate has been increased to 120Hz, with support for VRR. Unfortunately, it still uses an LCD panel, although it supports HDR10. An OLED version may be released in the future, similar to previous models.

Nintendo Switch 2 LCD

Nintendo Switch 2 offers significant improvements in video output. With the new dock, the console can display up to 4K resolution at 60Hz, as well as 1080p and 1440p resolutions at up to 120Hz.

HDR10 output is also available for better visual quality, especially on OLED TVs. The dock now features active cooling to keep the console's temperature stable during prolonged use.

The audio system in Nintendo Switch 2 has been improved with better internal speakers. The console also supports 3D audio for a more immersive gaming experience, whether using the internal speakers or headphones. When using the dock, users can enjoy 5.1 PCM audio output via TV or AV receivers.

MicroSD Express Support

Internal storage has been expanded to 256GB with higher speeds than the previous model. The microSD slot remains available but now only supports Express cards up to 2TB. Older standard microSD cards are no longer compatible due to their insufficient read-write speeds.

Nintendo Switch 2 supports Wi-Fi 6 for faster and more stable connections. Bluetooth is also available for pairing additional devices. Users who prefer a wired connection can use the Ethernet port on the dock.

GameChat Feature and Additional Camera

Nintendo Switch 2 Chat

Switch 2 introduces the GameChat feature, allowing players to communicate directly with friends while gaming. Using the C button on the Joy-Con 2 and the built-in microphone, users can talk with teammates.

The console also supports the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera accessory, sold separately, for video calls during gameplay. GameChat will be free until March 31, 2026, after which it will require a Nintendo Switch Online subscription.

Nintendo Switch 2 can play new exclusive games as well as most older Switch titles. Some older games will also receive a Switch 2 edition with enhanced frame rates, higher resolution, and additional gameplay modes. However, users who already own the older versions will need to pay for the upgrade.
